A synopsis of the manga One Piece:
Wealth, power, and glory. Gold Roger, King of the Pirates, battled for all of this. “You want my treasure?” he said as he was killed. You can have it! Look for him! I have concealed the world’s greatest treasure somewhere.” The One Piece is this prize, and it is somewhere on the Grandline.
As a result, the great pirate era began… Monkey D. Ruffy is 16 years old and has a great dream: he wants to be king of the pirates and locate the treasure One Piece! Ruffy is a rubber guy with extraordinary abilities derived from the devil’s fruit “GumGum”. He dreams about the pirate Shanks, who once saved his life and handed him his extremely valuable straw hat right before his departure.
First, he must locate a crew and a ship… No sooner said than done! “One Piece” is a popular manga series written and drawn by Eiichiro Oda. It has been published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shnen Jump magazine from July 22, 1997, and has been compiled into 96 tankbon volumes as of September 2021. The plot follows the exploits of Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy whose body acquires the qualities of rubber after mistakenly eating a Devil Fruit, and his motley gang of pirates known as the Straw Hat Pirates. Together, they traverse the Grand Line in pursuit of the world’s greatest treasure known as “One Piece” in order to become the Pirate King. The manga has been converted into an anime series, multiple feature films, and several video games, and has become one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
Eiichiro Oda is the creator of the manga series One Piece. He also does the series’ drawings. The manga has been published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997. It has been collected into 104 tankbon volumes as of November 2022. The protagonist of this story is Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy whose body develops the characteristics of rubber after mistakenly swallowing a Devil Fruit. The plot revolves on the escapades of Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy, followed by his motley crew of buccaneers known as the Straw Hat Pirates, sails the Grand Line in search of the world’s greatest treasure, known as “One Piece,” in order to become the next Pirate King and take his due position at the helm of the pirate world.
The manga was adapted into an original video animation (OVA) by Production I.G in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation began airing in Japan in 1999. Both of these adaptations were based on the original text. Toei has also produced thirteen feature films, one original video animation, and eleven television specials. Several companies have created a broad range of items, including trading card games and video games. Viz Media has been given the rights to publish the manga in English in North America and the United Kingdom, while Madman Entertainment has the rights to publish it in Australia. Before the license was terminated and subsequently purchased by Funimation in 2007, the anime had been licensed by 4Kids Entertainment for an English-language release in North America in 2004. However, this release never happened.
One Piece’s storyline, artwork, characters, and even its humor have all received praise. Some manga volumes have established new milestones for publishing, becoming the books with the largest initial print runs of any book ever released in Japan. The official website of the One Piece manga stated that the manga has broken a Guinness World Record for “the most copies released for the same comic book series by a single creator.” Eiichiro Oda is the only creator of the One Piece comic book series. As of May 2018, it is projected that more than 440 million copies of the manga have been sold worldwide, making it the all-time best-selling manga series. In addition, One Piece maintained its position as the best-selling manga series for the eighth year in a row in 2017.
